Editing Error Corrections: In this type of exercise, the short passage is given. There is an error in each line off the passage against which two blank lines are given. Students are needed to identify the error and then to correct it.
In the first blank, the incorrect word is to be written (under ‘Error’ section) and in the second blank the correct word is to be written (under ‘Correction’ section).
Note:
First, read the passage carefully to get an overall idea of the passage and clearly noticeable errors.
Identify the tense used in the passage and see the sentence is correct its tense wise.
Try to look for errors in – verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, determiners (‘Articles’ ‘Quantifiers’ etc.)
Keep any eye on subject-verb agreement. Generally, a singular subject takes singular verb and vice versa.
After ‘to’ first form of verb is used (like – to go, to read, to paly etc.) but after any preposition, generally ‘ing’ form of verb is used. (like – for going, for reading, for playing etc.)
Helping verbs ‘has, have, had’ always carry either third form or the ‘ing’ form of verb (like – has been written, has written, have been writing)
Helping verbs ‘is, am, are, was, were’ take either ‘ing’ form or third form of verb (e.g. – is doing, is done, was helping, was helped,)
